What is CBD for Pets? A Closer Look at Pet CBD
What is CBD?
One of the largest misunderstandings that clouds the truth about CBD products is that CBD comes from marijuana, so it must be bad. First of all, it is merely a manner of perspective that constitutes whether or not marijuana is actually “bad.” CBD has nothing to do with the effects that marijuana produces for the people that smoke it. Although CBD is in the cannabis plant, it is only one of over a hundred other cannabinoids that reside there with it, including the infamous THC.
CBD, which is short for cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid that is present in plants that come from the cannabis genus of plants. It does not cause a psychoactive high, nor is it known to cause any other type of ill effects for the people that use it.
Cannabinoids are believed to be part of the preservation mechanism for cannabis plants that help them to defend themselves from predators, ward off dangers, and to help attract pollinating insects so that they can carry on and continue to exist and thrive.
Although there is not enough solid scientific evidence to state that CBD is effective for any type of medical ailment, millions of people throughout the world use CBD on a regular basis to help them relax and relieve discomfort.
Is CBD for Pets Different?
Humans, dogs, cats, and most every other creature with a spine have a sophisticated messaging system in the body that is entangled within the nervous system known as the endocannabinoid system. It turns out that we all produce compounds in our bodies that are so similar to cannabinoids that when we are introduced to them our bodies accept them as our own and allow them to communicate with our central nervous system.
It is within this system that our bodies find balance and can operate at healthy levels. This state of balance is known as homeostasis. Proper homeostasis is comprised of many critical variables such as body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, metabolism, immunity, and more. With this in mind, it is easy to see that the endocannabinoid system plays a very important role in the health and wellbeing of our bodies.
Although THC and CBD communicate differently with the receptors of the endocannabinoid system, they both can cause changes in our chemistry that are significant. Scientists believe that it is within the communication that goes on between CBD and the endocannabinoid receptors that causes the benefits of CBD to take place.
Because both animals and humans have an endocannabinoid system, CBD can provide benefits to both.
CBD is CBD, there is no special CBD for pets, other than s specifically formulated product that contains CBD such as pet treats, or specially flavored CBD tinctures. In these cases, there is a base product such as a flavored bone that has a hemp extract that contains CBD infused with it.
Is CBD Good for Pets?
It is no secret that millions of pet owners worldwide give their furry buddies CBD on a regular basis. Many of these pet owners claim that the products that they use make day and night differences when it comes to the relief of stress and discomfort. The one thing that each pet owner must understand is that every pet is different, and will have different sensitivities towards CBD products. The only way to truly know whether or not CBD is safe for your own pet is to get the advice of a professional veterinarian. Certain medications can clash with CBD and cause severe problems. Some animals may be more prone to difficulties with using CBD. If you are uncertain whether or not CBD will be OK for your pet to use, make a call and ask a professional.
