Let the Positive Emotions in
When positive emotions take over we usually have a good time, we are able to move forward and even become better at what we do. However, when negative emotions take over, we can see everything we have created up to this point crumble.
Now, as adults we know that this can mean things like depression, it can lead to substance abuse or even eating disorders. However, what happens when those emotions actually affect us during our adolescent years?
Adolescent Years are the most Difficult ones
Those are tender years during which we are not able to perfectly comprehend everything that is happening around us. However, as adults we can recognize the signals which means that, if we actually do have an adolescent dealing with emotional problems we need to help them.
DBT also known as dialectical behavioral therapy could actually be the perfect emotion regulation therapy for adolescents for a very specific reason. DBT was specifically created to be adapted to each person individually.
Adolescents Need Their Own Treatment
In other words, instead of actually using a generic therapy that can be applied to everyone but give us mediocre results we are going to be using DBT based on the needs and preferences it that the adolescent has. And here is why this is a good idea.
As mentioned earlier as an adult you are actually able to recognize a problem and in many different cases understand your feelings and be able to regulate them but as an adolescent you’re not able to do that. It is completely reasonable to assume that, the difference between an adult and an adolescent is the same difference that exists between the treatments for an adult and the treatment for an adolescent.
DBT Can Work for Them
Using a generic treatment is not going to work perfectly in either of those groups. However, using tailor-made treatment like DBT to help an adolescent will have much better results in much less time.
As a parent or a person responsible for an adolescent you need to make sure that you’re going to give them everything you need in order they need in order for them to be able to function properly. DBT can be the best treatment for them.
