8 Things to Expect at Rehab

8 Things to Expect at Rehab

Rehab

Considering going to rehab but not sure what to expect? You are in luck! This post will provide you with some insight into what the experience is like. We’ll discuss 8 things that you should be prepared for when entering rehab.

People will often ask themselves the question, “What should I expect when entering a rehab center?” It’s not an easy answer to give because every rehab is different.

The process of rehab is a lot like the grieving process. There will be phases, and you’ll progress through these stages before feeling better again.

You are going to have to make some big changes in order to get your life back on track such as giving up alcohol or drugs which can feel challenging at

1) Acceptance – Rehab isn’t a walk in the park, it’s work and it can be difficult at times. However, if this is your choice then you need to “face” reality and accept that this may be the best decision for yourself or a loved one who needs help.

2) Healing – Don’t go into treatment expecting everything to magically get better overnight because that doesn’t happen (although it does happen sometimes). The goal of rehab is to help people heal both mentally and physically from the addiction.

3)  Support – rehab will be a tough time so it’s important to have support. Friends and family can provide this for you as well as other people in rehab who are experiencing the same thing, or even staff members at rehab.

4)  It’s important to be ready for rehab. This means physically and mentally prepared, not expecting the “warm welcome” that many people think rehab provides.

5)  Rehab is a process, not an event. This means that rehab doesn’t end after the first few weeks or months. It’s something you’ll need to work on for probably years and it will be hard at times.

6)  There will be people who have relapses. You’ll need to learn how to talk about this with them and others in rehab without judgement or fear of relapse yourself.

7)  The rehab process is not about you. It’s about the person who has an addiction, and it’s their journey of recovery that needs to be acknowledged.

8)  If it’s not a rehab program that you can afford, then there are other resources available to help people find the best rehab center for their needs.
